Tree & Shrub Planting on the Pootatuck River

Next Tuesday 10/8, the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) and the Newtown High School advanced placement Environmental Classes will be planting shrubs and trees to complete the PWA Pootatuck bank restoration root wad project. Timing will be from 10 until 2 although help may be needed earlier and perhaps later to finish up the work.

CVTU has been a partner in this project and will be funding the purchase of plants and trees from funds raised at the 2017 Chapter banquet and a grant received from First Light.

The planting location is on the Pootatuck River immediately upstream of the mouth of Deep Brook in Newtown. Proceed past the Newtown Animal Control facility and Dog Park to the kiosk on Deep Brook and walk the Deep Brook trail to the site. HVA will have tools and gloves available.

Although it is short notice, it would be great to have some of our members out to participate if at all possible. Call Joe Hovious 203-470-2952 with any questions.
