Volunteers Needed For Pootatuck River Cleanup and CVTU Kiosk Upgrade

We need CVTU volunteers this Saturday, September 25th, for work on the Pootatuck River. We will focus our efforts on two areas of concern.

First, we need to clear invasive plants from our root wad plantings on the Pootatuck, at the confluence of Deep Brook.

Second, we need to work on fixing and updating our two Pootatuck River/CVTU kiosks. The kiosk on Al’s Trail behind the Newtown United Methodist Church was vandalized this past month. Both kiosks need updating as many of the documents displayed are outdated with incorrect information on CVTU, our chapter meetings and Trout Unlimited’s mission.

Please bring gloves, wear boots, and work clothes that you are happy to get wet and dirty. CVTU leadership will provide water, bug spray, and tools.

Our meeting time is 8:30 behind the dog park in Newtown at our Deep Brook Kiosk on Old Farm Road.

This will be our first event of Trout Unlimited’s “Trout Week” 2021.

Note on COVID-19: Trout Unlimited requires us to follow CDC guidelines for gatherings like a river cleanup. For Fairfield County the CDC reports that masks are not required for outdoor gatherings. Fairfield County has 80% of the eligible population fully vaccinated. However, the CDC reports that county transmission is high. We encourage you to follow CDC guidelines and use your own judgement if volunteering for Saturday’s work. Masks will be optional.
