Tony Ballato will be leading a chapter trip to the West Branch of the Delaware River in May. The chapter will be staying at the Delaware River Club situated just outside of Hancock NY right on the West Branch. The dates are Friday, May 20,to Sunday,May 22nd. Probably more significant that a big fish is a first fish. Bill Bennett caught his first trout on a dry fly during the trip to the Little J. I still get a thrill from seeing a fish hit a dry and I can still remember the first trout I caught on a dry — a six inch Brown. Congrats to Bill!

We are planning on fishing the Androscoggin River in Maine for smallmouth bass from guided drift boats on July 22 and 23, 2010. Michael Jones, the guide we are working with to chase land locked salmon on the Kennebuc this fall, is ramrodding the smallmouth trip. A maximum of 8 anglers can participate in this trip; all 8 seats are filled as of December 8, 2009. $100 nonrefundable deposits are due at registration, and a second nonrefundable deposit of $150 is due by mid January . Registration is closed but those wishing to wait list in case of a cancellation should contact  the Trips Chair.  

The Androscoggin smallmouth fishery is world class. These fish have shoulders, and on a fly rod from a drift boat in significant current, they are a real thrill !

I will identify a motel for the group once we have trip deposits turned in. Individuals will be responsible for room reservations and roomates.

We are wade fishing the Salmon River for steelhead on November 16 and 17, 2010 with two anglers per guide. All eight of the seats are reserved as of September 14. New registrants will go on a wait list.

The Little Juniata trip has been set up as a repeat in May, except we will fish the Little J for two days instead of splitting our time between the Little J and Penns Creek.

The June 2009 CVTU trip to float fish the Deerfield River was a success. We will repeat in 2010 as a two day trip fishing for rainbow trout.  The trip is scheduled for June 2010.

The smallmouth bass on the Androscoggin River are better than Deerfield’s , and I have had a couple of requests for a smallmouth trip on the Androscoggin in Maine, so that’s set now for July.

A fall steelhead trip has been arranged for the Salmon River near Pulaski NY in November, 2010. The Salmon River area (Pulaski) is closer than Niagara or Cattaraugus area, so it has the nod right now.

Right now the schedule looks like:

• wade for brown trout in the Little Juniata on May 19 and 20, 2010
• float for rainbow trout on the Deerfield on June 23 and 24, 2010
• float for smallmouth bass on the Androscoggin River (Maine) on July 22 and 23, 2010
• steelhead stalking on the Salmon River on November 16 and 17, 2010

We have several old favorites that will not be visited by CVTU-sponsored groups in 2009-2010. In the spirit of complete disclosure, so others can arrange personal trips to these locations if they choose, CVTU-sponsored groups will not be going to:

We are planning on floating the Deerfield River in northern Massachusetts for two days of rainbow trout fishing with Harrison Anglers on June 23 and 24. These days of the week are chosen to coincide with guaranteed water release days and avoid weekend “plastic hatches”

We have reserved three rafts and guides, subject to reservations by the end of January or until the maximum of 6 fishermen is committed. A waiting list has been established since all 6 seats are reserved and the trip is “full” as of October 14, 2009). A $100 nonrefundable deposit is required to hold your seat. A second non refundable deposit will be due by the end of March.

We will probably stay at the Oxbow Resort Motel in Shelburne Falls for the nights of June 22 and 23 (return home on the 24th after fishing all that day). I will contact them once we start getting registrations turned in. Individuals will be responsible for making their own room reservation and finding their own roomate.

We will fish the Little Juniata south of State College, PA on Wednesday, May 19 and Thursday, May 20; we will be guided by Keystone Anglers once again. 2009 Fishing Licenses:

In addition to a fishing license, trout anglers 16 and older must posses a Trout/Salmon Stamp (or Combination Trout-Salmon Stamp/Lake Erie Permit) to fish for trout.
A Lake Erie Permit (or Combination Trout-Salmon Stamp/Lake Erie Permit) is also needed to fish for trout, salmon and steelhead in Lake Erie and its tributaries.
Licenses, stamps and permits must be signed in ink and displayed on an outer garment. Anglers must also be able to provide positive proof of identification (other than the fishing license) upon request of a Waterways Conservation Officer.
License Fees: 2009 licenses, stamps and permits are valid December 1, 2008 through December 31, 2009 (except 1, 3 and 7-day licenses) and are available at issuing agents statewide and online through the The Outdoor Shop.
