Feb 13th – Dave Kumlien, Dir. of the TU Veteran Service Parntership

By  |

February 13, 2019 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

This month Dave Kumlien, Director of the TU Veteran Service Partnership, will join our meeting via Skype to present the organization’s nationwide effort to bring the healing power of the water to those who have served our nation so boldly.
After Mr. Kumlien’s presentation, some of CVTU’s resident “expert” fly tiers will show us some favorite springtime patterns while projecting the tying live onto the screen and narrating their process. Requests will also be taken from the floor if there are any. This is an excellent opportunity for other members to see how these experts craft their “killer” flies, and maybe just catch the tying bug themselves. With our Bar Flies events and our monthly Fly Exchange, fly tying is a way to increase engagement among our chapter members, which promotes out volunteer “sustain” hours.
The chapter meeting is held the second Wednesday of each month at the Stony Hill Fire House at 59 Stony Hill Road in Bethel. Doors open at 7 p.m. with pizza and drinks and the meeting begins at 7:30.
Chapter Meeting Monthly Fly Exchange — tie your best “Stonefly” patterns
Pat’s Rubber Legs, Kaughman’s, Prince Nymps, and the “20 Incher” are just some of the many Stonefly patterns that pull trout from our local streams.
The fly exchange is a fun way to see the creativity of our fly tiers and share patterns and flies for your fly box, while contributing to the club community. Fly tiers of all experience are welcomed and encouraged to participate.
Here’s how it works:
  1. Submit eight flies for the exchange at each monthly meeting. Six will go towards the exchange and two will go into a master fly box for the 2019 banquet.
  2. Bring your flies in a small plastic cup or other small container with your name written on it.
  3. Fly recipes or links to videos are optional.
  4. If you don’t tie flies, you can submit store bought flies.
  5. Those that submit flies to the exchange will receive 6 flies at the end of the meeting.

Each Month Will Feature a Different Fly Theme
