May 14th: Striper fishing trip on the Housatonic

May 14, 2016 7:30 am to 1:00 pm

Join us on May 14th for a morning of striped bass fishing trip at the mouth of the Housatonic River. We will be meeting at 7:30 a.m. in the commuter parking lot off of Exit 9 on I-84 in Newtown, and then drive down to the Connecticut Audubon Society Coastal Center at Milford Point. (Click on the highlighted text for Google Maps coordinates.) If you prefer to go directly to the Audubon property, plan on meeting the group there at 8:15 a.m.

We’ll have some experienced anglers on hand to help with any questions on flies, techniques, and gear, but a generally recommended setup would be something like an 8 or 9-weight fly rod with a sinking or intermediate line paired with traditional striper flies such as clousers or deceivers. And don’t forget, this will be salty or brackish water, so be sure to rinse your gear thoroughly after the fishing.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Tony Ballato here.
