April 13th Meeting: Pike and Muskie Fishing with Joe Goodspeed

By  |

April 13, 2016 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Join us as Joe Goodspeed discusses fly fishing for the large predatory pike and muskies available here in the Northeast. The presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the special flies, gear, and other equipment that make it possible to land, properly handle, and safely release these fish. Listen to a unique perspective about how an apex predator relates to it’s environment and how fishing pressure influences behavior and food choices. Joe will share some of his most successful fly patterns and the rigging tricks that have accounted for the successful catch and release of nearly 50 adult muskies and tiger muskies on fly gear in heavily-fished public northeastern waterways over the past two seasons.

Joe is an innovative angler, fly designer, and public speaker who works in the fly fishing industry. Originally from upstate New York, Joe recently moved to western Massachusetts to be sales manager and help with product development for Thomas & Thomas Fly Rods. In addition to fly fishing for muskies, Joe’s other favorite pursuits include searching for large wild brown trout in marginal waters, and ice fishing for predators.

The meeting is free and open to members, guests and the general public. It is held at Stony Hill Fire Department, 59 Stony Hill Road, Bethel and starts at 7:30 p.m. but doors open at 7 p.m. for pizza, soda and some good conversation with fellow anglers. Don’t miss out on the raffle too
