Winter Fly Fishing on the Farmington River

By  |

farmingtonbrown-2Join us on Wednesday, January 14th at 7 pm at Michael’s At the Grove at 42 Vail Road Bethel, CT to lean about Winter Fly Fishing on the Farmington River.

Steve Zakur, chapter president and devoted winter angler, will be speaking about winter fly fishing on the Farmington River. When the glamour hatches of spring and summer are a long distant memory and the the thermometer struggles to get above freezing there are still plenty of opportunities to catch trout in Connecticut’s waters. The Farmington, one of the state’s premier fly fishing destinations, provides one of the better chances at winter trout. Steve will share his experience fishing this river including: dressing for success, fly selections and hatches, techniques, and reading the water. The focus of the presentation will be on the West Branch TMA.

In addition to Steve’s presentation several chapter members including David Surowiecki, Kit Nielsen, and Doug Peterson will be tying their favorite winter patterns for the Farmington. You’ll have the opportunity to speak with these tyers first hand about their experience and favorite techniques.

As always, we will have pizza, great conversation, new fish stories and a cash bar. Don’t forget to pick up your raffle tickets too. You might head home with new some new reading material, a  fly box (perhaps with a few flies), hats, maybe even a six-pack of beer. Who knows what Kit will cook up for this month’s raffle. Stop by and find out.
