Rabbit’s Foot Emerger
The Rabbit’s Foot Emerger is one of my favorite flies to both tie and fish. In the vise it is easy to whip up. Three basic materials tied in a very simple manner.
On the water it’s quite versatile and works for almost any hatch as long as you have a few different sizes and colors available. I mostly tie this in a green attractor version (which also works well during a green Caddis hatch), in a gray Adams color and then in a Hare’s Ear color. Size #14 and #16 seem to be the right sizes for most mayfly and Caddis situations.
The Recipe is pretty simple.
Hook: Standard Nymph Hook or Scud Hook #14-#18
Thread: 6/0, Match Color of Abdomen
Abdomen: Ice Dub, color to match hatch
Wing: Rabbit’s Foot
Head/Thorax: Black Ice Dub
Legs: Patridge, Hen or Pheasant (you don’t really need this)
